Finding The Right Baby Carrier For You

Congratulations on the upcoming arrival of a baby! Among all the preparations made in advance of the baby’s birth, you must have considered how you will be transporting the baby around. A popular option is that of babywearing, which means carrying the baby close to you in a baby carrier instead of pushing around a stroller.

There are several things to look for when you choose your baby carrier.

We recommend organic baby carriers because the material will be close against both your baby’s delicate skin and your own, so it is worth the extra care in getting the safest fabric possible.

Of course you should find one that comes with good instructions, as they sometimes look complicated to put on, especially with a small squirmy baby in your arms at the same time.

And then there are several major design differences that you need to consider. The major options are slings, wraps, or over the shoulder carriers.

Slings, which can come with or without an adjustable ring, are basically tubes of fabric that go over one of your shoulders and hang across your chest, with the baby held inside in a cozy snuggle. Younger babies often really enjoy the sling design because they feel comfortable in the womb-like embrace, and you can even breastfeed the baby without removing the carrier. However if the baby is heavy, the sling design can place a lot of weight on your neck and shoulders.

Unlike a sling, a wrap baby carrier involves longer pieces of fabric that you wrap around both the baby and your own body and then secure with by tying the ends of the fabric. This way you get better back support and the baby is carried either in front of you or on your back, with more room to look out and see the world as opposed to the inward position of the sling. This method can accommodate older babies up to toddlers if you can get them wrapped up and carried on your back.

Over the shoulder carriers is another option for moms looking for designer organic baby carriers. They have the same benefits as the wrap but are much more easily adjustable. Another benefit is the ease in which you can transfer the carrier from one person to another without having to remove the child to make adjustments.

We recommend the most stylish and yet practical organic baby carriers which combine the best of all three styles.
